The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100192 (Microsoft Internet Explorer Cumulative Security Update (MS14-037)).
Applying the patch MS14-037 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com.
