A remote code execution vulnerability exists in Microsoft SharePoint when the software fails to check the source markup of an application package, aka 'Microsoft SharePoint Remote Code Execution Vulnerability'. This CVE ID is unique from CVE-2019-0604.
The bug was discovered 02/12/2019. The weakness was disclosed 02/12/2019 as confirmed security update guide (Website). The advisory is shared at portal.msrc.microsoft.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with Microsoft. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2019-0594 since 11/26/2018. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. A single authentication is necessary for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. The advisory points out:
A remote code execution vulnerability exists in Microsoft SharePoint when the software fails to check the source markup of an application package. An attacker who successfully exploited the vulnerability could run arbitrary code in the context of the SharePoint application pool and the SharePoint server farm account.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 110330 (Microsoft Office and Microsoft Office Services and Web Apps Security Update February 2019).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
