The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with Microsoft. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2019-0635 since 11/26/2018. The attack can be launched remotely. The requirement for exploitation is a single authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK. The advisory points out:
An information disclosure vulnerability exists when Windows Hyper-V on a host operating system fails to properly validate input from an authenticated user on a guest operating system. To exploit the vulnerability, an attacker on a guest operating system could run a specially crafted application that could cause the Hyper-V host operating system to disclose memory information.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 91504 (Microsoft Windows Security Update February 2019).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
