CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Adobe Flash Player up to 13.0.0.201 (Multimedia Player Software). It has been rated as very critical. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component Pixel Bender. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Buffer overflow in Adobe Flash Player before 11.7.700.279 and 11.8.x through 13.0.x before 13.0.0.206 on Windows and OS X, and before 11.2.202.356 on Linux, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via unspecified vectors, as exploited in the wild in April 2014.

The weakness was published 04/28/2014 by Alexander Polyakov with Kaspersky Labs as APSB14-13 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at helpx.adobe.com. The public release happened without involvement of Adobe. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-0515 since 12/20/2013. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 12/21/2024). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product decreasing in the near future.Due to its background and reception, this vulnerability has a historic impact. The advisory points out:

Adobe is aware of reports that an exploit for CVE-2014-0515 exists in the wild, and is being used to target Flash Player users on the Windows platform.

After 2 weeks, there has been an exploit disclosed. The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as attacked. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $100k and more. A worm is spreading, which is automatically exploiting this vulnerability. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 73780 (RHEL 5 / 6 : flash-plugin (RHSA-2014:0447)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Red Hat Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 166960 (OpenSuSE Security Update for flash-player (openSUSE-SU-2014:0585-1)).

Upgrading to version 13.0.0.206 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at adobe.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Attack attempts may be identified with Snort ID 31968. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 13922.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (92749), Exploit-DB (33333), Zero-Day.cz (19), Tenable (73780) and SecurityFocus (BID 67092†). securelist.com is providing further details.
