A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in UltraVNC Revision 1198 (Connectivity Software). This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component Client. UltraVNC revision 1198 contains multiple memory leaks (CWE-655) in VNC client code, which allow an attacker to read stack memory and can be abused for information disclosure. Combined with another vulnerability, it can be used to leak stack memory and bypass ASLR. This attack appears to be exploitable via network connectivity. These vulnerabilities have been fixed in revision 1199.
The bug was discovered 03/01/2019. The weakness was disclosed 03/05/2019. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2019-8259 since 02/12/2019. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 4 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 371706 (UltraVNC Multiple Code Execution Vulnerabilities).
Applying the patch Revision 1199 is able to eliminate this problem.
