The manipulation as part of a Key Combination leads to a access control vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-264. This is going to have an impact on integrity. CVE summarizes:

Unity before 7.2.1, as used in Ubuntu 14.04, does not properly handle keyboard shortcuts, which allows physically proximate attackers to bypass the lock screen and execute arbitrary commands, as demonstrated by right-clicking on the indicator bar and then pressing the ALT and F2 keys.

The weakness was disclosed 04/28/2014 by Frederic Bardy as Bug #1313885 as confirmed bug report (Bug Tracker). The advisory is shared for download at bugs.launchpad.net. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2014-3204 since 05/03/2014. The exploitability is told to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.

A public exploit has been developed by Frederic Bardy and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at bugs.launchpad.net. It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 195462 (Ubuntu Security Notification for Unity Vulnerabilities (USN-2184-1)). The advisory illustrates:

1 - When the screen is locked just right click multiple times on the indicator bar (for example on the battery indicator), then shortcuts are available. 2 - Press ALT+F2 3 - you can execute the command you whant on behalf of the logged user.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published 1 days after the disclosure of the vulnerability. The bug report contains the following remark:

This bug was fixed in the package unity - 7.2.0+14.04.20140423-0ubuntu1.1
