The bug was discovered 03/12/2019. The weakness was disclosed 03/12/2019 as confirmed security update guide (Website). The advisory is available at portal.msrc.microsoft.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2019-0798 since 11/26/2018. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. A spoofing vulnerability exists when a Lync Server or Skype for Business Server does not properly sanitize a specially crafted request. An authenticated attacker could exploit the vulnerability by sending a specially crafted request to an affected server. The attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could then perform cross-site scripting attacks on affected systems and run script in the security context of the current user.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 110332 (Microsoft Office and Microsoft Office Services and Web Apps Security Update March 2019).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
