D-Link DAP-1350 up to v.1.20b07 /apply.cgi html_response_page cross site scripting

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in D-Link DAP-1350 up to v.1.20b07. Affected is an unknown function of the file /apply.cgi. The manipulation of the argument html_response_page with the input value %3Cscript%3Ealert%28"SquirrelLord"%29%3B%3C%2Fscript%3E leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. This is going to have an impact on integrity.

The weakness was presented 04/17/2014 by K Lovett as File 126219 as confirmed exploit (Packetstorm). The advisory is shared for download at packetstormsecurity.com. The public release happened without coordination with the vendor. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details and a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.

A public exploit has been developed by K Lovett in HTTP POST Request and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at packetstormsecurity.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 2 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (93083), SecurityFocus (BID 66973†) and Secunia (SA58061†). See VDB-13187 for similar entry. Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
