A vulnerability was found in libsndfile (Audio Processing Software) (version unknown). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function wav_write_header of the file wav.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
It was discovered the fix for CVE-2018-19758 (libsndfile) was not complete and still allows a read beyond the limits of a buffer in wav_write_header() function in wav.c. A local attacker may use this flaw to make the application crash.
The bug was discovered 04/10/2019. The weakness was disclosed 03/21/2019 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2019-3832 since 01/03/2019. The attack needs to be approached locally. The successful exploitation requires a single authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 176653 (Debian Security Update for libsndfile (DLA 1712-1)).
