A vulnerability has been found in PowerDNS Authoritative Server up to 4.0.6/4.1.6 (Domain Name Software) and classified as critical. A vulnerability was found in PowerDNS Authoritative Server before 4.0.7 and before 4.1.7. An insufficient validation of data coming from the user when building a HTTP request from a DNS query in the HTTP Connector of the Remote backend, allowing a remote user to cause a denial of service by making the server connect to an invalid endpoint, or possibly information disclosure by making the server connect to an internal endpoint and somehow extracting meaningful information about the response
The bug was discovered 03/18/2019. The weakness was released 03/21/2019 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2019-3871 since 01/03/2019. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. A single authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
