rbash in Bash before 4.4-beta2 did not prevent the shell user from modifying BASH_CMDS, thus allowing the user to execute any command with the permissions of the shell.
The bug was discovered 11/14/2018. The weakness was disclosed 03/22/2019 (Website). The advisory is available at lists.debian.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2019-9924 since 03/22/2019. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
