The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cleartext storage vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-312. The weakness was presented 05/20/2014 by laalaa as 2 security bugs in Dlink router DIR-605L as not defined mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). It is possible to read the advisory at seclists.org. The vendor was not involved in the public release. The mailinglist post contains:
Since the "report vulnerability" function of the Dlink website not work, the bug has been reported to "webmaster" of Dlink via e-mail.It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1555 according to MITRE ATT&CK. The advisory points out:
The login password is printed out in clear text in the "Current Network Setting" page (just after login) "Device Info" section.
