IBM DB2 up to 10.5.0.2 on Windows Stored Procedure access control

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-6744. There is no exploit available. A patch should be applied to remediate this issue.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in IBM DB2 on Windows (Database Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown part of the component Stored Procedure. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-264. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

The Stored Procedure infrastructure in IBM DB2 9.5, 9.7 before FP9a, 10.1 before FP3a, and 10.5 before FP3a on Windows allows remote authenticated users to gain privileges by leveraging the CONNECT privilege and the CREATE_EXTERNAL_ROUTINE authority.

The weakness was shared 05/26/2014 by Danny Tsechansky with McAfee as swg21673947 / Reference 1673947 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at www-01.ibm.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2013-6744 since 11/08/2013. The attack may be launched remotely. A simple authentication is necessary for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 76116 (IBM DB2 Stored Procedure Infrastructure Privilege Escalation Vulnerability), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Databases. The advisory illustrates:

To exploit the vulnerability the malicious user would need: 1. Valid credential to connect to database 2. CONNECT privilege on database 3. CREATE_EXTERNAL_ROUTINE authority to create an external routine. This privilege is not granted to PUBLIC by default.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (89860), Tenable (76116), SecurityFocus (BID 67616†), Secunia (SA58519†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-45183†). The entries VDB-13393 and VDB-13395 are related to this item. If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
