A vulnerability was found in GNOME Evince up to 3.32.0. It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is the function tiff_document_render/tiff_document_get_thumbnail of the component TIFF File Handler. The manipulation as part of a Image File leads to a uninitialized pointer vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-824. The tiff_document_render() and tiff_document_get_thumbnail() functions in the TIFF document backend in GNOME Evince through 3.32.0 did not handle errors from TIFFReadRGBAImageOriented(), leading to uninitialized memory use when processing certain TIFF image files.
The bug was discovered 04/13/2019. The weakness was presented 04/22/2019 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at seclists.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2019-11459 since 04/22/2019. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
