SmarterTools SmarterMail 16.x before build 6985 allows deserialization of untrusted data. An unauthenticated attacker could run commands on the server when port 17001 was remotely accessible. This port is not accessible remotely by default after applying the Build 6985 patch.
The bug was discovered 04/11/2019. The weakness was disclosed 04/24/2019 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at smartertools.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2019-7214 since 01/29/2019. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
