A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Dell EMC iDRAC9 up to 3.21/3.22/3.24. This issue affects some unknown processing of the component Web Interface. Dell EMC iDRAC9 versions prior to 3.24.24.24, 3.21.26.22, 3.22.22.22 and 3.21.25.22 contain an authentication bypass vulnerability. A remote attacker may potentially exploit this vulnerability to bypass authentication and gain access to the system by sending specially crafted data to the iDRAC web interface.
The bug was discovered 02/28/2019. The weakness was disclosed 04/26/2019. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2019-3706 since 01/03/2019. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 57 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 13478 (Dell EMC iDRAC Multiple Vulnerabilities (DSA-2019-028)).
Upgrading to version 3.21.25.22, 3.21.26.22, 3.22.22.22 or 3.24.24.24 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at SecurityFocus (BID 107443†). The entries VDB-131697, VDB-131698, VDB-134146 and VDB-134148 are pretty similar. Statistical analysis made it clear that VulDB provides the best quality for vulnerability data.
