A vulnerability classified as critical was found in IBM Lotus Domino up to 6.0.5/6.5.4 (Groupware Software). This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the file NOTES.INI. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. HTTP response splitting vulnerability in the @SetHTTPHeader function in Lotus Domino 6.5.x before 6.5.4 and 6.0.x before 6.0.5 allows attackers to poison the web cache via malicious applications.
The bug was discovered 04/08/2005. The weakness was disclosed 04/08/2005 by Ollie Whitehouse with Symantec (Website). The advisory is available at www-1.ibm.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2005-1405 since 05/03/2005. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. By approaching the search of inurl:NOTES.INI it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at ibm.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
