Details
A vulnerability has been found in Cisco ASA and Firepower Threat Defense (Firewall Software) (affected version unknown) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the component CP Proxy Function. The manipulation as part of a Packet Sequence leads to a input validation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
A vulnerability in the TCP proxy functionality for Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software and Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD) Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause the device to restart unexpectedly, resulting in a denial of service (DoS) condition. The vulnerability is due to an error in TCP-based packet inspection, which could cause the TCP packet to have an invalid Layer 2 (L2)-formatted header. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted TCP packet sequence to the targeted device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause a DoS condition.
The bug was discovered 05/01/2019. The weakness was presented 05/03/2019 as cisco-sa-20190501-asa-ftdtcp-d as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at tools.cisco.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2019-1687 since 12/06/2018. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
