A vulnerability was found in GNU WildFly up to 16.0.0.Final (Application Server Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown part of the file /var/run/jboss-eap/. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a race condition vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-362. The product contains a code sequence that can run concurrently with other code, and the code sequence requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence that is operating concurrently. A flaw was discovered in wildfly versions up to 16.0.0.Final that would allow local users who are able to execute init.d script to terminate arbitrary processes on the system. An attacker could exploit this by modifying the PID file in /var/run/jboss-eap/ allowing the init.d script to terminate any process as root.
The bug was discovered 05/06/2019. The weakness was published 05/03/2019 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2019-3805 since 01/03/2019. Attacking locally is a requirement. A simple authentication is necessary for exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 237202 (Red Hat Update for Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 7.2.1 on RHEL 7 (RHSA-2019:1108)).
