A vulnerability has been found in Avaya One-X Portal for IP Office up to 9.1.2.0 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function DownloadToLocalDriveServlet of the component AFA Portal. The manipulation as part of a HTTP Request leads to a resource transfer vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-669. The product does not properly transfer a resource/behavior to another sphere, or improperly imports a resource/behavior from another sphere, in a manner that provides unintended control over that resource. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, and availability. CVE summarizes:
An issue was discovered in Avaya one-X Portal for IP Office 9.1.2.0 and prior. The DownloadToLocalDriveServlet function from the AFA portal is only intended to download backup ZIP files from the server to the operator desktop; however, a malicious user capable of intercepting the HTTP request would be able to modify folder and filename parameters in order to get access to any file on the underlying operating system, as demonstrated by a folder=/etc/&filename=passwd query string. Additionally it could cause a DoS, as this functions also implements file deletion after downloading.
The weakness was disclosed 05/10/2019. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-8812 since 03/20/2018. The attack needs to be approached locally. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
