A vulnerability was found in Apple tvOS up to 12.2.1 (Digital Media Player). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown part of the component WebKit. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. The bug was discovered 05/13/2019. The weakness was presented 05/13/2019 with Google Project Zero as HT210120 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2019-8622 since 02/18/2019. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. Multiple memory corruption issues were addressed with improved memory handling.
The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 371784 (Apple Safari Multiple Vulnerabilities (HT210123)).
Upgrading to version 12.3 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
