An input validation issue was addressed with improved memory handling. This issue is fixed in iOS 12.3, macOS Mojave 10.14.5, tvOS 12.3, watchOS 5.2.1, iTunes for Windows 12.9.5, iCloud for Windows 7.12. An application may be able to gain elevated privileges.
The weakness was published 05/13/2019 with CheckPoint as HT210122 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at support.apple.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2019-8577 since 02/18/2019. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. An input validation issue was addressed with improved memory handling.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 371813 (Apple iCloud for Windows Prior to 7.12 Multiple Vulnerabilities(HT210125)).
Upgrading to version 5.2.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
