An input validation issue was addressed with improved input validation. This issue is fixed in iOS 12.3, macOS Mojave 10.14.5, tvOS 12.3, watchOS 5.2.1, iTunes for Windows 12.9.5, iCloud for Windows 7.12. A malicious application may be able to read restricted memory.
The weakness was disclosed 05/13/2019 with CheckPoint as HT210122 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2019-8598 since 02/18/2019. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 371813 (Apple iCloud for Windows Prior to 7.12 Multiple Vulnerabilities(HT210125)).
Upgrading to version 5.2.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
