Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Symfony up to 2.7.50/2.8.49/3.4.25/4.1.11/4.2.6. Affected is an unknown function of the component Service ID Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In Symfony before 2.7.51, 2.8.x before 2.8.50, 3.x before 3.4.26, 4.x before 4.1.12, and 4.2.x before 4.2.7, when service ids allow user input, this could allow for SQL Injection and remote code execution. This is related to symfony/dependency-injection.
The bug was discovered 04/17/2019. The weakness was released 05/16/2019 (GitHub Repository). The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2019-10910 since 04/07/2019. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1505.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 29 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 254403 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2019-10910), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 277829 (Fedora Security Update for drupal8 (FEDORA-2019-1a3edd7e8a)).
Upgrading to version 2.7.51, 2.8.50, 3.4.26, 4.1.12 or 4.2.7 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (254403) and SecurityFocus (BID 104943†). Entries connected to this vulnerability are available at VDB-119487, VDB-119502, VDB-119506 and VDB-122590. Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
