An Incorrect Access Control issue was discovered in GitLab Community and Enterprise Edition 6.0 and later but before 11.3.11, 11.4.x before 11.4.8, and 11.5.x before 11.5.1. The issue comments feature could allow a user to comment on an issue which they shouldn't be allowed to.
The bug was discovered 11/28/2018. The weakness was disclosed 05/17/2019. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2019-5883 since 01/10/2019. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 170 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 371769 (GitLab Multiple Security Vulnerabilities).
Upgrading to version 11.3.11, 11.4.8 or 11.5.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
