A vulnerability was found in FreeRADIUS up to 3.0.19 (Network Authentication Software). It has been declared as critical. It was discovered freeradius up to and including version 3.0.19 does not correctly configure logrotate, allowing a local attacker who already has control of the radiusd user to escalate his privileges to root, by tricking logrotate into writing a radiusd-writable file to a directory normally inaccessible by the radiusd user.
The weakness was disclosed 05/24/2019 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2019-10143 since 03/27/2019. Attacking locally is a requirement. Required for exploitation is a single authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
