A vulnerability has been found in Google Chrome 35.0.1916.114 (Web Browser) and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown functionality of the file net/spdy/spdy_write_queue.cc of the component SPDY Handler. net/spdy/spdy_write_queue.cc in the SPDY implementation in Google Chrome before 35.0.1916.153 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read) by leveraging incorrect queue maintenance.
The weakness was disclosed 06/10/2014 by James March, Daniel Sommermann and Alan Frindell with Facebook as Stable Channel Update, June 2014 as confirmed release notes (Blog). It is possible to read the advisory at googlechromereleases.blogspot.ch. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2014-3155 since 05/03/2014. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 76057 (Debian DSA-2959-1 : chromium-browser - security update), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 195570 (Ubuntu Security Notification for Oxide-qt Vulnerabilities (USN-2298-1)).
Upgrading to version 35.0.1916.153 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at chrome.google.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
