A vulnerability has been found in Apple iCloud up to 7.11 on Windows (Cloud Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown part of the component WebKit. The bug was discovered 05/13/2019. The weakness was released 05/28/2019 with Zero Day Initiative as HT210125 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at support.apple.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2019-8597 since 02/18/2019. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The advisory points out:
Multiple memory corruption issues were addressed with improved memory handling.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 15 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 371785 (Apple macOS Mojave 10.14.5, Security Update 2019-003 High Sierra, Security Update 2019-003 Sierra Not Installed (HT210119)).
Upgrading to version 7.12 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
