Both authoritative and recursive servers are vulnerable to this defect. Exploitation of this condition can cause a denial of service in nameservers running affected versions of BIND 9.10.

It is assigned to the family DNS and relying on port 53. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 15093 (ISC BIND EDNS Option Processing Denial of Service Vulnerability).
Upgrading to version 9.10.0-P2 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. The advisory contains the following remark:
Access Control Lists do not provide protection.Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 16464.
