A vulnerability was found in pyxdg up to 0.25. It has been classified as critical. This affects some unknown functionality of the file xdg/Menu.py of the component Category Element Handler. A code injection issue was discovered in PyXDG before 0.26 via crafted Python code in a Category element of a Menu XML document in a .menu file. XDG_CONFIG_DIRS must be set up to trigger xdg.Menu.parse parsing within the directory containing this file. This is due to a lack of sanitization in xdg/Menu.py before an eval call.
The weakness was released 06/06/2019 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at lists.debian.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2019-12761 since 06/06/2019. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation.
