Cloudera Navigator Key Trustee KMS 5.12/5.13 ACL API Call cryptographic issue

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Cloudera Navigator Key Trustee KMS 5.12/5.13 (Cloud Software). This issue affects an unknown part of the component ACL. The manipulation as part of a API Call leads to a cryptographic issue vulnerability (Key). Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-310. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

In Cloudera Navigator Key Trustee KMS 5.12 and 5.13, incorrect default ACL values allow remote access to purge and undelete API calls on encryption zone keys. The Navigator Key Trustee KMS includes 2 API calls in addition to those in Apache Hadoop KMS: purge and undelete. The KMS ACL values for these commands are keytrustee.kms.acl.PURGE and keytrustee.kms.acl.UNDELETE respectively. The default value for the ACLs in Key Trustee KMS 5.12.0 and 5.13.0 is "*" which allows anyone with knowledge of the name of an encryption zone key and network access to the Key Trustee KMS to make those calls against known encryption zone keys. This can result in the recovery of a previously deleted, but not purged, key (undelete) or the deletion of a key in active use (purge) resulting in loss of access to encrypted HDFS data.

The weakness was released 06/07/2019 (Website). The advisory is shared at cloudera.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-6185 since 01/24/2018. The attack may be initiated remotely. A simple authentication is necessary for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1600 for this issue.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
