A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Ipswitch WS_FTP Server up to 8.6.0 (File Transfer Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown function in the library SSHServerAPI.dll. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. A Directory Traversal issue was discovered in SSHServerAPI.dll in Progress ipswitch WS_FTP Server 2018 before 8.6.1. Attackers have the ability to abuse a flaw in the SCP listener by crafting strings using specific patterns to write files and create directories outside of their authorized directory.
