Details
A vulnerability has been found in D-Link DCS-1100 and DCS-1130 (the affected version unknown) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function sub_A098 of the file /sbin/orthrus of the component UPnP Connection Handler. The manipulation of the argument -f as part of a Parameter leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
An issue was discovered on D-Link DCS-1100 and DCS-1130 devices. The binary orthrus in /sbin folder of the device handles all the UPnP connections received by the device. It seems that the binary performs a sprintf operation at address 0x0000A3E4 with the value in the command line parameter "-f" and stores it on the stack. Since there is no length check, this results in corrupting the registers for the function sub_A098 which results in memory corruption.
The weakness was disclosed 07/02/2019 as not defined mailinglist post (Bugtraq). The advisory is available at seclists.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-8414 since 05/02/2017. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
