A vulnerability has been found in Microsoft Windows up to Server 2019 (Operating System) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the component DirectWrite. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. The weakness was presented 07/09/2019 as confirmed security update guide (Website). The advisory is available at portal.msrc.microsoft.com. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2019-1121 since 11/26/2018. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. A remote code execution vulnerability exists in the way that DirectWrite handles objects in memory. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take control of the affected system. An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights.
