A vulnerability has been found in ZeroMQ libzmq up to 4.0.8/4.1.6/4.2.x/4.3.1 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown part of the file encryption/authentication. In ZeroMQ libzmq before 4.0.9, 4.1.x before 4.1.7, and 4.2.x before 4.3.2, a remote, unauthenticated client connecting to a libzmq application, running with a socket listening with CURVE encryption/authentication enabled, may cause a stack overflow and overwrite the stack with arbitrary data, due to a buffer overflow in the library. Users running public servers with the above configuration are highly encouraged to upgrade as soon as possible, as there are no known mitigations.
The weakness was released 07/10/2019 as not defined mailinglist post (Bugtraq). The advisory is available at seclists.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2019-13132 since 07/01/2019. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
Upgrading to version 4.0.9, 4.1.7 or 4.3.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
