A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in OpenEMR up to 5.0.1 (Business Process Management Software). This issue affects an unknown code of the file custom/ajax_download.php. The manipulation of the argument fileName with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. An issue was discovered in custom/ajax_download.php in OpenEMR before 5.0.2 via the fileName parameter. An attacker can download any file (that is readable by the user www-data) from server storage. If the requested file is writable for the www-data user and the directory /var/www/openemr/sites/default/documents/cqm_qrda/ exists, it will be deleted from server.
The weakness was released 08/13/2019. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2019-14530 since 08/02/2019. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. A simple authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1006 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

Upgrading to version 5.0.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
