memory leak in simple network management protocol (snmp) agent (snmp.exe) for windows nt 4.0 before service pack 4 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) via a large number of snmp packets with object identifiers (oids) that cannot be decoded.

The weakness was disclosed 12/23/1997 as not defined knowledge base article (Website). The advisory is available at support.microsoft.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-1999-1581 since 04/21/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
