Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in OpenBSD up to 6.5 (Operating System). Affected is the function tcp_sack_option of the component Kernel. The manipulation as part of a SACK Packet leads to a input validation vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
Reuven Plevinsky and Tal Vainshtein of Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. discovered that OpenBSD kernel (all versions, including 6.5) can be forced to create long chains of TCP SACK holes that cause very expensive calls to tcp_sack_option() for every incoming SACK packet which can lead to a denial of service.
The weakness was released 08/26/2019. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2019-8460 since 02/18/2019. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely.
