Vulnerability in (1) diskalign and (2) diskperf in IRIX 6.4 patches 2291 and 2848 allow a local user to create root-owned files leading to a root compromise.
The issue has been introduced in 11/01/1996. The weakness was disclosed 05/27/1998 as 19980502-01-P3030 as not defined advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at patches.sgi.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-1999-1039. The exploitation appears to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
