CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to up to 5.0.2. It has been classified as problematic. Impacted is the function i_size_write of the component p9 Filesystem. Performing a manipulation as part of Infinite Loop results in infinite loop. This vulnerability was named CVE-2019-16413. The attack may be initiated remotely. There is no available exploit. Upgrading the affected component is recommended.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Linux Kernel up to up to 5.0.2 (Operating System). This affects the function i_size_write of the component p9 Filesystem. The manipulation as part of a Infinite Loop leads to a infinite loop vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-835. The product contains an iteration or loop with an exit condition that cannot be reached, i.e., an infinite loop. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:

An issue was discovered in the Linux kernel before 5.0.4. The 9p filesystem did not protect i_size_write() properly, which causes an i_size_read() infinite loop and denial of service on SMP systems.

The weakness was presented 09/19/2019. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2019-16413 since 09/18/2019. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1499 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 247074 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2019-16413), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version bis 5.0.3 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (247074). See VDB-140765, VDB-140890, VDB-141092 and VDB-141232 for similar entries. Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
