Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.2.x (Operating System). Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the component Marvell Wifi Chip Driver. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a buffer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-120. The product copies an input buffer to an output buffer without verifying that the size of the input buffer is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
There is heap-based buffer overflow in Linux kernel, all versions up to, excluding 5.3, in the marvell wifi chip driver in Linux kernel, that allows local users to cause a denial of service(system crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code.
The weakness was released 09/20/2019 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at lists.fedoraproject.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2019-14814 since 08/10/2019. The attack needs to be approached locally. A simple authentication is needed for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
