Internet Explorer 4.0 and 4.01 allow a remote attacker to read files via IE's cross frame security, aka the "Cross Frame Navigate" vulnerability.
The issue has been introduced in 04/01/1997. The weakness was published 09/04/1998 as MS98-013 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared for download at technet.microsoft.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-1999-0871. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
