A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Google Chrome (Web Browser) (the affected version unknown). Affected by this issue is the function erase of the file browser/extensions/api/dial/dial_registry.cc. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a permission assignment vulnerability. browser/extensions/api/dial/dial_registry.cc in Google Chrome before 54.0.2840.98 on macOS, before 54.0.2840.99 on Windows, and before 54.0.2840.100 on Linux neglects to copy a device ID before an erase() call, which causes the erase operation to access data that that erase operation will destroy.
The bug was discovered 11/09/2016. The weakness was disclosed 10/25/2019. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-5202 since 05/31/2016. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
