An issue was discovered in rConfig 3.9.2. An attacker can directly execute system commands by sending a GET request to ajaxServerSettingsChk.php because the rootUname parameter is passed to the exec function without filtering, which can lead to command execution.

The weakness was disclosed 10/28/2019 (Website). The advisory is shared at shells.systems. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2019-16662 since 09/21/2019. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
