Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Trend Micro OfficeScan 11.0/12.0 (Anti-Malware Software). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the component ZIP File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Trend Micro OfficeScan versions 11.0 and XG (12.0) could be exploited by an attacker utilizing a directory traversal vulnerability to extract files from an arbitrary zip file to a specific folder on the OfficeScan server, which could potentially lead to remote code execution (RCE). The remote process execution is bound to a web service account, which depending on the web platform used may have restricted permissions. An attempted attack requires user authentication.

The weakness was presented 10/28/2019. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2019-18187 since 10/17/2019. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but an exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $5k-$25k (estimation calculated on 02/06/2025). The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.

It is declared as attacked. This issue was added on 11/03/2021 to the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog with a due date of 05/03/2022:
