The weakness was disclosed 10/29/2019 by Piotr Bania with Cisco Talos as HT210722 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2018-1215. The attack can be launched remotely. The successful exploitation needs a single authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1608.002 according to MITRE ATT&CK. The advisory points out:
Multiple memory corruption issues were addressed with improved input validation.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 13143 (Dell EMC multiple vulnerabilities).
Upgrading to version 10.15.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
