Details
A vulnerability was found in CHICKEN up to 4.8.0.3. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown code block of the component Incomplete Fix. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a buffer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-120. The product copies an input buffer to an output buffer without verifying that the size of the input buffer is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Multiple buffer overflows in the (1) R5RS char-ready, (2) tcp-accept-ready, and (3) file-select procedures in Chicken through 4.8.0.3 allows attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) by opening a file descriptor with a large integer value. NOTE: this issue exists because of an incomplete fix for CVE-2012-6122.
The bug was discovered 05/10/2013. The weakness was disclosed 10/31/2019 by Florian Zumbiehl (Website). The advisory is shared at code.call-cc.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-2075 since 02/19/2013. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 2365 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at SecurityFocus (BID 59758†) and OSVDB (93131†). The entry VDB-144736 is pretty similar. Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
