Details
A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.3.11 (Operating System) and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is the function crypto_reportstat of the file crypto/crypto_user_stat.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
A memory leak in the crypto_reportstat() function in crypto/crypto_user_stat.c in the Linux kernel through 5.3.11 allows attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) by triggering crypto_reportstat_alg() failures, aka CID-c03b04dcdba1.
The weakness was disclosed 11/18/2019. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2019-19050 since 11/18/2019. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely.
