Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.3.7 (Operating System). Affected is the function acp_hw_init of the file drivers/gpu/drm/amd/amdgpu/amdgpu_acp.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
Four memory leaks in the acp_hw_init() function in drivers/gpu/drm/amd/amdgpu/amdgpu_acp.c in the Linux kernel before 5.3.8 allow attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) by triggering mfd_add_hotplug_devices() or pm_genpd_add_device() failures, aka CID-57be09c6e874.
The weakness was shared 11/18/2019. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2019-19067 since 11/18/2019. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1499.
The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment.
Upgrading to version 5.3.8 eliminates this vulnerability.
