Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Squid Web Proxy up to 4.8 (Firewall Software). Affected is an unknown code of the component Access Check. The manipulation as part of a URN Request leads to a input validation vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
An issue was discovered in Squid before 4.9. When handling a URN request, a corresponding HTTP request is made. This HTTP request doesn't go through the access checks that incoming HTTP requests go through. This causes all access checks to be bypassed and allows access to restricted HTTP servers, e.g., an attacker can connect to HTTP servers that only listen on localhost.
The weakness was presented 11/26/2019 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at lists.opensuse.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2019-12523 since 06/02/2019. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
Upgrading to version 4.9 eliminates this vulnerability.
